They might never find him. This was the only way.

Adelaide deactivated the biometric scanners with ease. They weren’t exactly top tier equipment to begin with. Of course, the fault would be detected and spur additional response. If the lock on your bedroom door falls loose, you’d better have another way of keeping monsters out.

She’d be lucky if they didn’t shoot on sight. Their best chance of that was the dulcet tones and soft face of a Dunsweir surprise inspection. She didn’t need to buy much time. Just a hesitation.

Rashida counted the floors as they whisked by her, noting in her head when they cracked that magic number and descended underground. She had slipped the surly bonds of this hostile planet, only to plunge into Hell to meet the devilish claws of its primordial residents.
